Ballistic Shield Interior Operations
Ballistic shields are only as effective as the officer behind them. This intensive two-day course develops the knowledge, confidence, and decision-making skills necessary to safely deploy ballistic shields during interior operations in high-risk environments.
Classroom and Practical
UTM or Simunition Platforms
No Dedicated Range Required
Course Overview
The course begins with foundational classroom instruction covering shield deployment principles, movement, communication, weapon integration, and tactical decision-making before transitioning into extensive hands-on practical exercises. No live-fire range is required. All practical scenarios are conducted using UTM® or Simunition® training platforms, allowing agencies to train safely within their own facilities or other realistic structures while creating a more immersive, scenario-based learning environment.
Students progress through increasingly complex interior tactical problems involving stairwells, hallways, threshold evaluations, center-fed and corner-fed rooms, single- and dual-shield operations, and active threat response. Every evolution emphasizes communication, movement, problem-solving, and operational decision-making under stress rather than static techniques or rote repetition.
Why It Matters
Built on real-world operational experience, this course provides practical, repeatable tactics that improve officer survivability, reduce unnecessary exposure, and increase team effectiveness during search warrants, barricaded subjects, rescue operations, and active threat incidents.
Training Without a Range
Because the course utilizes UTM® or Simunition® platforms instead of live-fire exercises, agencies can host the training at their own facilities without requiring dedicated range access, reducing logistical challenges while maximizing realistic, scenario-driven training.
